An authentic investment and heirloom quality Nantucket Lightship Basket (any basket purchased from me) will present as follows:

• The basket will have been crafted entirely by hand by me, a Cape Cod and Islands artisan, and bear a signature and date hand etched in the underside base of the basket.
• The basket will have been constructed using a custom made mold.
• The basket will come complete with a lifetime guarantee for all components and workmanship.
• The baskets will have a solid New England-milled hardwood, or exotic wood base hand-rubbed and beautifully finished in three separate coats of hard finish soft lustre, Antique Oil, in your choice of wood type for a furniture quality finish.
• The basket will have an inlaid natural ivory medallion scrimmed by hand with my name in the underside base.
• The basket will have staves (ribs) made from specially selected cane, reed or New England-milled hardwoods, depending upon your selection. Most authentic Nantucket Lightship Baskets have an uneven number of staves and these are sized and hand shaped, with hardwoods being steam bent and shaped to fit each basket individually, no two Nantucket Lightship Baskets are identical. (Some few baskets do have an equal number of staves, these will be specified.)
• The basket will have natural weavers from specially chosen select premium long selected cane. The weavers will be hand thinned and shaped in order that as each weaver is added to the whole there are no unsightly bulges or gaps.
• The basket will be meticulously finished and then carefully inspected. Receiving an application of three separate coats of hard finish soft lustre Antique Oil Finish to the outside and one coat to the inside so the basket may breathe.
• The basket will have a rim, constructed out of reed, New England-milled hardwood, or exotic wood, according to your selection. The rim will be affixed using brass escutcheons.
• The basket will, depending upon the basket selected, have single, double or triple lashing over the rim and an additional filler where the rim and the wall meets. The rim will be hand-rubbed smooth and lustrously finished with three separate coats of hard finish soft lustre Antique Oil Finish.
• The basket will have a New England-milled hardwood, or exotic wood, handle (on baskets that have handles) in your selection of wood type. The handle will be hand-rubbed and beautifully finished with three separate coats of special soft lustre Antique Oil.
• The basket will have its handle affixed using brass escutcheons which are hand-peened to finish. Accenting each escutcheon will be knobs and washers made in your choice of natural ivory, scrimmed natural ivory, bone or wood.
• The basket will have a lid (on lidded baskets) made from either hand-rubbed New England-milled lustrously finished hardwood, exotic wood, or premium cane depending upon your selection, with each receiving three to six separate coats of a special polyurethane for a furniture quality finish. Lids will have a knobs made from natural ivory, scrimmed natural ivory, bone, scrimmed bone or hardwood according to your selections.
• The basket will have the option of having additional decorative hand-scrimmed natural ivory, carved natural ivory, scrimmed bone, bone, wood or other medallions or additions all according to your selections.
• The basket will, upon delivery to you, have straight well-spaced staves. Have beautifully smooth and lustrously finished hardwood parts.  Have natural ivory fittings with all scrimshaw created by artists not machines. Have a thorough and complete sealed weave. Have a clean tight well-organized weave that will leave you guessing as to exactly how it could have been woven because you won’t be able to find any seams. Be clean and free of cane ‘hair’ or fuzziness. In all regards of fit, finish and construction meet your every requirement and expectation.
• The basket will be delivered to you by insured delivery with all costs included in the prices quoted.
